In celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3/12/2025), students of Grades 4 and 5 of our Primary School took part on Tuesday, 25/11/2025, in a highly meaningful experiential presentation as part of the awareness program on blindness titled “See Life Through Different Eyes.”We welcomed to our school lawyer Mr. Vangelis Avgoulas, who is blind from birth and founder of the non-profit organization “With Different Eyes”, which aims to strengthen the voice of people with disabilities in society. He is the first lawyer with a disability elected to the Board of the Athens Bar Association. He has served as advisor to the Ministers of Health and Interior, and has also been President of the insurance fund “House of Sailors.” For several years, he served as a municipal councilor in the Municipality of Ilion, where he resides, and also held the position of Deputy Mayor.Students heard firsthand about the daily efforts of people with disabilities to achieve equality, accessibility, and dignity—an effort that concerns not only individuals with disabilities but society as a whole. Through their curiosity, questions, and active participation, the students demonstrated how important it is to open dialogue, recognize difficulties, and support the fight for an inclusive world. This activity helped students understand that diversity is not an obstacle but a source of strength, and that respect, empathy, and inclusion are built through knowledge and human interaction. A powerful experience that left meaningful messages and seeds of change in their hearts.
